Ringtone Overview

This article will explain the things you need to know in-order to make changes to your Polycom's Ringtones when connected to the CTS Hosted Voice platform. Please be aware that lines configured to use the CTS ICM services via the CTS EAS services platform controlling ringtones are controlled by your ICM rules configured via the CTSPortal at https://www.ctsportal.com

The next thing you need to be aware of is that the CTS Hosted VoIP service lines have one setting that is controlled by you business group. This setting controls 1 thing: Distinctive Ring Alerting for Intra-Business Group calls vs external calls. This setting can be set 3 different ways.

  1. None:
    • When set to none, the ringtone setting selected in the Polycom phone will be generated for both Intra-Business Group calls & calls from external callers .
  2. External:
    • When set to external, the ringtone setting selected in the Polycom phone will be generated for Intra-Business Group calls and the Belcore2 standard ringtone will be generated for calls from external callers.
  3. Internal:
    • When set to internal, the Belcore2 standard ringtone will be generated for calls from external callers and the ringtone setting selected in the Polycom phone will be generated for Intra-Business Group calls.

 ** Note to set ring tone on the Polycom phone: Settings > Basic > Ring Type > Default > select ring tone.


ICM Line & RingTones

Note: for ICM lines Ring Tones are controlled by Rules, if the ICM line is set to "Ring My Phone" the line ringtones will follow as a non-ICM line but if the ICM line is using rules where you can also control the Ringtone, the ringtone will follow the ICM rules and Internal/External Distinctive ringtones will not be followed.

Summary .. So What Can you Really Control

You the user can control your Polycom's phone default ringtone setting, and your business group administrator of your CTS Hosted Voice system can control your Business Groups Distinctive alerting setting by calling CTS help desk. If the administrator selects Internal or External setting the you will loose the control on either External Caller ringtone or Intra-Business Group calls.
